Judge a book by its cover ...

... and a blog by its header!

The detail at the top of this page is from a portrait of Miss Eleanor Urquhart painted by the Scottish artist Sir Henry Raeburn around 1793. That's the year my heroine, Claire Lammond, was born, twenty-one years before the action of the book. But despite the clothes and the hair it's her: poised, self-contained, reserved, even stand-offish.
Amazingly, the image is available free of charge for any use, commercial or non-commercial, under the open access policy of the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, USA. Thank you!
