“I do perceive here a divided duty.” (March 1, 1814)

Gah! I’ve just realised I neglected to attribute the quotation. Sorry about that! It’s from Shakespeare’s Othello, Desdemona explaining to her father in Act 1, Scene 3, that her first duty lies with her husband. Claire refers to the same scene when discussing the attack on Justin and Pepe with Robert (p. 137). And I was trying so hard to avoid being one of those over-educated authors. Ach well, it’s not so bad as that, is it now? At least I’m not quoting ancient Greek in Greek script, like Sigmund Freud or Dorothy Sayers.
