"...shimmering in the moonlight..." (February 2, 1814)
There was a full moon on
February 4, 1814, rising at 7 pm, so moonlight
after 6 pm on February 2 doesn't seem too great a stretch...
How do I know? The inimitable Stephen Bowden recommended this site.
I
just noticed the unattributed quotations on p. 31. Sorry about that! “Grim-visagèd
war” and “Now, instead of mounting barbèd steeds, he capers nimbly in a lady’s
chamber” are both from Shakespeare’s Richard
III, Act 1, Scene 1, lines 9ff.
