I was surprised, when checking my data before posting, that Mark Girouard's Life in the English Country House: A Social and Architectural History dates from 1978. His magisterial study of the subject is a highly enjoyable read, too! The same goes for Amanda Vickery's The Gentleman's Daughter: Women's Lives in Georgian England, published in 1998.
